ROMAN QUARRIES (2nd and 1st CENTURIES B.C.)

Pilar de la Horadada, which may be known at that time as the "mansio of Thiar", was a stopping place to rest and trade on the Roman Via Augusta, one of the oldest of Spain and which was formerly called "Via Haráclea".

This road and other buildings were built in the first and second centuries BC, by using the rocks that might be extracted from the Roman quarries located on the beach del Río.
